The Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA) is a computer software
package used by Customs Administrations in processing export and import
documents. It facilitates fast clearance of goods, accounting for
revenue collected and compilation of trade statistics. ASYCUDA
was introduced in Uganda in 1996 starting with version 2.6 . Later
in 1999 was upgraded to 2.7, and is currently operational in the
following ten stations:-
Kampala Long Room, Kampala Railway Goodshed, Entebbe Cargo, Entebbe
Capt., Jinja, Busia, Malaba, Tororo ,Mbarara, Mutukula, Portbell,
Bus terminals, Katuna, Mbale, Post Parcels, Kasese, Paidha, Goli,
Arua, Lia, Vurra, Oraba, Moyo, Kitgum / Madi Opei, Mpondwe, Ishasha
River, Mbarara, Mirama Hills, and Kikagati.
The new Verification system ASYCUDA + + was implemented on November
1st, 2002.
URA management decided to migrate to the newer
ASYCUDA ++ version, which consists of several modules, including
Declaration, Accounts, Statistics, Manifest, Transit Broker (Agent),
ASY Gate (for communication between servers) and Risk management,
compared to version 2.7 which did not provide the Warehousing/Bonds
and Risk management modules.
